Geography

The Cambodia is located on the Southeast Asia mainland and covers 70,288 square miles (181,035 square kilometers). It is flanked by Thailand in Northwest, Lao in North and Vietnam in the East. The Southwestern coast faces to the Gulf of Thailand.

The Capital of the Cambodia is Phnom Penh.

Season

The climate of Cambodia is typical hot and humid year round. Monsoons bring dramatic change in rain fall, creating two seasons: A wet season and a dry season. Between 75 and 80 percent of total annual rainfall is brought by the Southwest Monsoons between May and October. The arrival of the Northeast Monsoons in usher in the harsh dry season. The average temperature is 80 Degree Fahrenheit (26.7 Celsius), but it is cooler in the highland.

The Flag of Cambodia

The two blue bands at the top bottom of Cambodia flag represent royalty, while the red band in the centre represent the nation, white symbolize Buddhism, Cambodia main religion. The Angkor Wat, sit in the center of the flag. Angkor Wat is the most important symbol of Khmer culture and civilization. The current flag has been used since September 1993, following the first election in two decades.

Language

The official language of Cambodia is Khmer, although French is still spoken by the older generation. English is gaining in popularity, particularly in tourist areas.

Currency

The national currency is the Cambodian Riel. It is issued in notes of 50, 100, 200, 1 000, 5 000, 10 000, 50 000, 100 000. In Siem Reap, however, most prices are quoted in US dollars and travelers may find it convenient to carry small-denomination notes in this currency. Use of credit cards is limited to the large hotels.

Health

A doctor is on call at 24 hours a day. In some areas of Southeast Asia, precautions should be taken against contracting mosquito-borne diseases. Guests are advised to use mosquito repellents in the early morning and late in the day to minimize and possible risk. Travelers may also wish to consult their doctors.

Dress

Loose, light clothing is recommended. In the dry season, which is a little cooler, a light sweater may be needed of an evening. It is recommended to bring along a comfortable pair of walking shoes, wide brimmed hat and sunscreen.
